This spring Kate Kuziakina participated in the Hit Like A Girl (HLAG) contest 2018 (USA). She became the winner of HLAG 2018 Week One (drumset <18) and the winner of HLAG 2018 Techra Top Ten Award.
Hit Like A Girl is an international drumming contest for female amateur drummers and percussionists. Its purpose is to spotlight female drummers and encourage drumming and lifelong musicianship for women and girl, regardless of age or playing level. The contest sponsors and supporters are famous companies that produce drum gear, drum magazines, and organizations which provide music teaching and training.
The first HLAG contest was held in 2011. HLAG has two age divisions: under 18 (<18) and 18-and-over age (18+) divisions. There were four entry categories available this year: Drum Set World Percussion, Marching Percussion, Concert Percussion, and Drum Technology. Also, in 2018 four local contests were held: in China, France, Mexico, and the UK.
The contest has several types of awards. Kate Kuziakina became the drumset weekly winner for Week One in the division <18. She was chosen by the judges from the HLAG Week One sponsors Zildjian Company and Vic Firth.
